About the Cup

The Solstice Cup was born from decades of friendly competition between friends known as Big Wood. The event was first played in 1991 and continued for years at various resorts and destinations around Michigan. After 20+ years of play, the burning desire of competition and participation began to fade. Only Jeff and Rick were left to play the last round of Big Wood in 2014. At that moment, the two realized that the event needed a refresher. They devised a new format and re-branded the event as the Solstice Cup. Emphasis was placed on commitment to the event, and a beautiful trophy was procured. The Solstice Cup’s renewal has sparked new fun and fierce competition.

The Format

Partners are chosen at the Annual Draw Party weeks before the event. You will not have the same partner twice during the event. This way, you’re not stuck with a poor-playing partner for the weekend and others get to benefit from your awesome play. Stableford points will be accumulated during the week on an individual basis. The individual winner will be crowned on Saturday night. We’ll pay-out 3 places… First place: $400. Second: $200. Third: $100. The winner’s name goes on The Solstice Cup to live in its rightful place in perpetuity. USGA Handicap (GAM.org) handicap is required. Pick the tees you want to play from that benefit your handicap. Cards for all rounds are distributed at arrival.

Scoring format: Modified Stableford: 90% handicap for better-ball, 100% for both balls.

Scoring format: One-Club Stableford Scoring
